What Happens When I Die?

pic This is the big question that we all have asked ourselves at one time or another. The single most important question that you will ever answer is this - "If I were to die today, would I spend eternity in Heaven with God?" Only the TRUTH holds the answer to this question.

How Do I Find Truth?

picPeople look for answers in all sorts of places, which is why we have so many religions and philosophies in our world today.

In the HOLY BIBLE, in John 14:6, Jesus Himself said, "I am the Way the Truth, and the Life." In another passage, in John 17:17, He said, "Sanctify them through thy truth, thy Word is truth." (Sanctify means 'to set apart for God's use'.) From this we see that both Jesus is TRUTH and the Bible is TRUTH, and the Bible also contains the TRUTH about God and eternity.

The Bible is rich with teaching and instruction about life, death and eternity from the perspective of God who created us and wrote the Bible. Perhaps you are familiar with the Bible verse in John 3:16, "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life." This verse plainly declares the love of God toward us, but it also gives insight to the main teaching of the entire Bible, which is the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. As we learn more about Jesus, we will get the answer to our first question on eternity.

Who is Jesus & Why did He Die?

picMany people are aware of the historical figure known as 'Jesus', but the Bible also explains to us that Jesus Christ was God in the flesh. The Bible also teaches us that Jesus came into the world to die on the cross for the sins of mankind! NOTE: This is only a very basic answer, but by studying the Bible you can see these things for yourself.

Because Jesus was God in the flesh, He was perfect and sinless, yet we find Him dying on a cross as if He were a bad person. Why? The Bible teaches that Jesus died on the cross as a substitute for the punishment of sin, thereby making a way for us to come to God. We've all sinned, no doubt about that. In the Bible, in Romans 3:23 says, it teaches "For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God." Later in Romans 5:8 it says, "But God commendeth His love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us." (Commend means 'to show'.) The Bible teaches us that it's only THROUGH CHRIST that we can be saved from the penalty on sin.

What must I do to be Saved?

picJesus did all the work for us on the Cross. In fact, Ephesians 2:8-9 says, "For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast." It is by grace, through faith in Jesus Christ that we can be saved, and the Bible says "For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved." (Romans 10:13). Salvation is available to everyone, we only need ask in faith, recognizing that we are a sinner in need of a Saviour, and that Jesus Christ our Lord is just that.

One of our Pastors would be delighted to be contacted by you and to counsel you from the Bible, explaining in more detail the things we have spoken of. We also encourage you to take a look at the Bible Study Course that is available on our website or at one of our services, as it more thoroughly discusses these Truths about Eternity.
